The CrossFit Open for the Pregnant & Postpartum Athlete
As a CrossFit Athlete we are heading into one of the most fun times of the year… The CrossFit Open! It’s an opportunity for us to test our fitness, push ourselves, and bond with our AMAZING CrossFit community!
If you are pregnant or recently postpartum do you have an intentional plan for how to participate in the Open?
It can be a hard line to walk during this season of our lives. We want to feel connection within our community, we are athletes, we WANT to do what we love. I’ve been there. I’ve been the athlete that at 12 weeks post C-section has convinced herself that she can do the Open. I’ll go slow is what I told myself- that was my plan. I ended up performing each WOD as RX’d and by that I mean getting a few reps to “prove something” to someone or myself. I had no strategy other than this and often felt confused and upset at how I performed. The following month my life changed when I started work with my Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist and began my ongoing education pursuing my certifications in Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coaching.
First know that you do not have to participate in the Open and it’s fine to sit this one out. However, with an adjusted mindset and approach we can still participate in the Open if we choose too! After all we are still strong and amazing in this season of our fitness- we focus on how we move forward with intention and quality to allow ourselves the opportunity to support our long term strength, function, and performance.
During this season I want to provide pregnant and postpartum athletes with the right strategy and support as you navigate the CrossFit Open so that you are confident and empowered in the choices you make.
If you plan on participating in the Open, do you:
Have a plan/strategies in place specific to you and your needs?
Know how to adjust movements specific to you?
Have a coach that understands pregnancy, postpartum, and core & pelvic floor considerations?
Have someone who can help adjust mindset to feel empowered and confident in participating?
As a pregnant and postpartum athlete it is entirely FINE to sit this CrossFit Open out and enjoy the community. Be a judge. Be the best cheerleader you can be supporting your CrossFit family knowing you’ll be back out there soon enough…
If you choose to participate though, I can help you develop a plan with individualized strategies to help you feel empowered and confident knowing that this only a short chapter of our overall fitness. We proceed with intention and quality that will help support us long term.

Plan ahead of the Open as we discuss how to navigate common movements seen every year, how to manage mindset, intensity, and modify movements for your needs
Note: During this chapter of athleticism it is not about the leaderboard and doing the RX or Scaled movements as written. If those movements align with YOUR best plan then AWESOME! However, we may need to adjust movement outside of the scaled workouts to meet you where you are and to support your long term athleticism and function.

1- 60 minutes virtual strategy call based on your individual considerations. We work through your questions, concerns, and build a plan specific to you for movement and mindset during the open.
An in depth customized resource document based on our virtual strategy call
5 weeks of email support and a written plan with video for movement demonstrations on how to approach each Open workout designed for YOU and YOUR considerations.
